On Sunday 12th April I had the pleasure of demo painting live at UMAE – http://www.umae.co.uk – at The Business Design Centre, Islington, London. I was invited to demonstrate Cameleon Colourblocks (some of which I had designed for Cameleon Bodypaint) by Jennie Roberts, the founder and director of Paintopia Bodypainting Festival, held annually in Norwich. Screenface, the specialist make up and special effects store in London, have recently begun to stock Cameleon products, so my job at the expo was to create a design on the Screenface stand, demonstrating the loading, application and various techniques required to create crisp, even and solid one stroke motifs.
I decided to create a boldly coloured yet delicate and feminine design which would flatter my model who was to be wearing a corset, and I also hand made a headpiece to complement the look.
On the day, I roughly mapped out the symmetry of the piece, filled certain sections with Cameleon base paints and metallics, then created my Colourblock (one stroke) floral motifs, before over-laying with diminishing florals, line work, highlights and shading. The design took several hours as I constantly stopped to answer questions and to advise people on loading, application and colour choices, before they made a purchase on the stand. Several people had not come across one stroke applied to the skin before, and even people who were ‘not normally into flowers’ loved the design and expressed an interest in learning the techniques and trying the products, so in terms of promoting the art form, the Cameleon products and Screenface as a stockist, it seemed to be be a great success. I enjoyed the day enormously. I love to paint at live events and because I’m so fond of working with one strokes, am always happy to share my knowledge and enthusiasm.
For my UMAE design I used the following Cameleon paints :
Strong black and white, Bollywood Pink, Blood Red, Purdy Purple, Thistle, Capulet, Rose Sugar, Plum Fairy, Oscar, Steampunk, Shocking Pink, Gypsy, Olivia, Elni, African Sunset.
